| Blood Donations |
All Pennsylvania Masons are eligible for membership in the Masonic
Blood Club. A donation of one unit of blood
provides coverage for the immediate family. Widows of
Pennsylvania Masons are also eligible for membership without the
requirement of donating one unit of blood. It is a benefit of her
husband's membership in the Masonic Fraternity.
|
| Become an Organ Donor |
Organ donation is another major issue that we address. If you have
not previously signed an organ donor card, please consider doing so.
We do NOT procure organs for members in need. Our purpose is to
heighten awareness and to provide educational materials on the
subject.
|
|
Dues are NOT required for membership
in the Blood and Organ Donor Club. |
| |
| Some basic questions and
answers: |
| Who is Covered? |
The Member, his spouse and all children up to 18 years of age. There
are no limitations on number of units of blood, an no geographic
limitations.
|
| What is Required for
Membership? |
A requirement of one donated unit of blood by the applicant or by a
substitute is all that is required. There is no monetary obligation
for membership. Widows of all Pennsylvania Freemasons are
automatically covered, upon application, without the required one
unit of blood.
|
| Who Can Join? |
The Masonic Blood club is open to all Pennsylvania Freemasons. It is
also open to members of Pennsylvania Women's groups having Masonic
affiliation as a requirement for membership. Masonic youth group
members are also eligible for membership in the club.
|
| Why should I give blood? |
Because every day blood donations help to save lives! Auto accident
patients may require more than 50 pints of blood depending on the
severity of the injuries. A patient undergoing hip replacement
surgery may use up to 6 pints of blood. A child with leukemia may
use 300 units of blood components during treatments.
|
| When should I give blood? |
The demand for blood is high and blood donations are needed
constantly because blood is perishable. It must be used within 35
days. Some components must be used within 5 days.
|
| Who can give blood? |
Anyone age 17 and older, weighing 110 pounds or more and in good
health can be a blood donor. Blood donations can be given every
eight weeks with no harm. A brief physical examination and
medical history are taken prior to donation.
|
| I already give blood, what
should I do? |
If you are already a regular blood donor, thank you. You
can still join the Masonic Blood Donor Club by completing the form
for membership and sending it to Pennsylvania Grand Lodge at the
address on the form.
When you donate, please mention to the agency that is collecting
your blood that you would like your donation credited to the 7th
Masonic District. If they don't have the 7th Masonic
District in their system, then credit Pennsylvania Freemasons.
